The Struggles Of Adulting

A nice vacation in Hawaii sounds good right about now doesn’t it?

Sounds good to me.

Sitting on the beach in Waikiki, just relaxing with a drink in hand and not having a care in the world. Sounds fantastic right? Well now it’s back to reality unfortunately.

That is how I’m sure everyone in college feels at this point. Just completely done with everything and everyone. Plus if you’re managing a job and school, which is almost everyone, you are more than done with everyone and everything.

The schoolwork seems to just be piling up more and more every day, and all you can see is summer vacation.

It’s like the minute spring break ended, professors wanted to just add on to the already tough workload we had.

It’s not easy managing a job and going to school at the same time. Literally living paycheck to paycheck, and trying to make sure all your assignments are in on time as well as making sure you will have water and electricity, and at least some kind of food. Yeah the struggle is real.

Professors seem to be getting upset that we are slipping up and aren’t paying attention. Well, in all honesty, we don’t care at this point. We have what, four weeks left of school? We are literally just trying to get through these next couple of weeks and pass, so we can just relax before the world actually hits us with the struggle of finding a job in our career choice.

It’s crazy to think that I’m already a junior. I literally just remember walking into Mercy on my first day of my freshman year. Where does the time go? I mean yeah it’s a part of growing up, but time needs to slow down just a tad for me to catch up with it.

Before having a job school really did seem like a breeze. Being able to do homework (if you actually did it) whenever you needed too, you got to SLEEP, and actually be caught up on life.

Now that most people and I have a job, these things aren’t an option, especially SLEEP. That comes much later in life. Yes we get those occasional two to three hours of sleep at night, and we say it’s enough but that will come back to bite you in the ass. Especially when you have a presentation due the next day and you can barely remember what it’s even about.

Being an adult who is in college trying to get their life together and figured out is in no way shape or form easy. It doesn’t help when there are some professors who just put you down for not doing a good job on your assignments and that you will get nowhere in life.

So as college students we try to just brush it off and just keep on keepin’ on with our business and try our best, but once we hear that one too many times it starts getting to us.

Every time I met someone older in college they would always say “Oh yeah I know exactly what I want to do, I’m half way done with everything.”

I always thought when starting college you had to know what you wanted to do and just have it all figured out. I was so completely wrong about that.

I myself had no clue what I was doing, and I don’t think it is fair that people in high school, have to figure out what they want to do with their life. Who at age 16 had any idea what they wanted to do in life and have a career all figured out? I know I didn’t, that’s for sure.

So being told you have to figure out what you want to do and have it all done within four years is crazy and we all drive ourselves crazy to get it done. Being an adult now in today’s age I feel our lives are way more complicated because of the way technology is advancing.

We are constantly on our phones; people know exactly where we are and what we are doing so it’s not as easy getting a job in our field now in today’s world.

For now we just try to do our best and do what we know. We have that job that’s just getting us by until we find that right job in our life that takes us to our path in life. But until that time comes we just have to get by with school work as well as try and keep our stable job.

We just have to keep on keepin’ on and we just got to get through life. This is only the beginning of our struggles of adulting.

We got this.
